On February 5, 2024 the County of LA hosted a Latinos Experiencing Homelessness Sounding Board Session at the MLK Jr. Center for Public Health. This was one of several upcoming sessions convened by the County’s Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (ARDI) initiative aimed at bridging policy experts, service providers, and the local community on the rise of Latino homelessness.
Che Ramirez was invited as a panelist to share about his knowledge and experiences in working to identify barriers and develop solutions. Latino homelessness is the fastest rising demographic of those experiencing homelessness across the country, state, and in Los Angeles. Per the recent LAHSA (CoC) Point in Time Count, Latinos now make up 41% (18,871) of all people experiencing homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, a 200% increase over the past 8 years. Currently, the County, LAHSA, and the Mayor’s Office are leading efforts to convene various working groups of policy experts to develop best practice recommendations and investment. Che Ramirez is leading that effort for Mayor Bass and CHE LLC is currently contracted as a Sr. Advisor on Homelessness Operations for the Mayor’s Office.
